DigiDaub 9 now available

Version 9 of DigiDaub is now available. If you would like it please email me and I will email it to you. My email address is available from the "About" menu in DigiDaub8. Please put a mention of DD9 in the subject of you email, otherwise it may be overlooked.

Here is some information about version 9:

Colour:ColourPick: Click the right mouse over a colour on the Canvas. The palette will change to the single colour under the mouse.

Text:Single: You can use the Right Mouse Button to place the text in a position down the Canvas determined by the click of the button. Please note that due to the vagaries of fonts, the position of the text is somewhat approximate.

Text:Vertical: You can use the Right Mouse Button to place the text in a  position across the Canvas determined by the click of the button. Please note that due to the vagaries of fonts, the position of the text is somewhat approximate.

Textures:Lïttle Daubs: Now randomly placed on the Canvas rather than in columns as before.

Effects:Random Fills: This new section gathers together all the 'Fills' which cover the canvas with ellements whose colours depend on the colour on the Canvas at the position occupied by the fill element.

Effects:Ragged Straight: Now includes the horizontal direction (Ragged Straight H) as well as the old Ragged Straight, now with the letter V appended.

Effects:Jumble: Randomly adds a thin black border to each element.

Effects:Frames: Improved Torn Edge frame reinstated.

Colour Effects: Adjust Hue: With this you can change the amount of red, green or blue in an image on the Canvas.

Colour Effects:Margins: Fills the appropriate margin of the Canvas with the first colour of the Palette. If you right click the mouse, the margin will start at the point where you clicked. Bear in mind that only the x position (across the Canvas) of the mouse click effects the Left and Right margins, whereas it is the y (up/down) position which effects the Top and Bottom margins. All Margins draws all four margins at once. This effect is intended to provide a plain area for adding text (perhaps after importing the DigiDaub image into another graphic program).

Colours: The amount of red, greenn or blue in the current palette can be adjusted.

New design elements:

Textures:Little Scribbles

Background:Deco Angles/Deco Circles/DecoFans/DecoSquares

Organic Shapes:Torn Pieces in three sizes

Effects:HighLight and Effects: LowLight

A selection of bugs have been corrected and other small improvements have been made.

Subtle Textures

You can use DigiDaub to add some subtle textures to an image, for example:

1. Import the image you wish to add texture to.
2. Select Colours:Grey only.
3. Cover image using Background:Plain.
4. Select Colours: Black only.
5. Now add shapes or a texture to the background. Here I have used Regular Textures:Fine Textures:Weave. I actually applied this texture three times in order to make it a strong image.

6. Edit:Copy this image.
7. Revert to the original image - File:Revert to last opened.
8. Now choose Edit:Blend copied image:Weak.

9. I then repeated step 8 to provide a stronger texture. I could have used Edit:Blend copied image:Medium in the first place.

Using the same method I have added some text...

to this image.

Transparancy

If you intend opening an image to be used as an Overlay Image (found under the File menu) or as a Showthrough image after copying the image (found under Edit), please use an uncompressed image file (such as .bmp). A compressed image file( such as .jpg) will most likely add some artifacts in the black or white areas, which, whilst showing as black or white on the Canvas are not pure black or white. Using a compressed file will probably result in 'spots' around the edges of the Overlay or Showthrough part of the image..

Of course, you can use this 'feature' as part of your image if you want a random spotty effect.
